The Facts

  • Research is clear on early educational opportunities and positive life outcomes.
    • Early intervention with program unit funding (PUF)
    • Develop numeracy and literacy skills
    • Social-emotional development
  • Recognize this research and provide increased opportunities for our community.
    • Contributions to the workforce:
      • Working parents can better coordinate schedules
      • Increase school-based teams
      • Saving parents the associated childcare costs
      • Opportunities for before/after school care

Proposed Solution

  • The 2023 Ministry of Education Mandate Letter states:
    • “address the growing needs of students with mental health and other learning challenges…” and provide them with “every opportunity to flourish in our education system and economy.”
    • Ensuring Alberta's educational funding model continues to promote parental choice in education. This includes ensuring that Alberta's public, separate, francophone, charter, independent (private) schools and early childhood services operators and home education systems are all appropriately funded to ensure the highest educational outcomes for students.
    • Reviewing and strengthening Program Unit Funding (PUF) to ensure programming and funding are addressing the educational needs of children with severe disabilities or delay.
  • Support students and families by funding full-time kindergarten.
